Scenting the Point of Sale

Scent affects consumer behavior. It influences consumer decisions regarding the purchase of goods. Pleasant scents tend to lead the customer to spend more time in a retail location. Perhaps more importantly, pleasant scents increase the likelihood that a customer will come back. A well-chosen fragrance helps shape a positive atmosphere and image for your store and improves the moods of both customers and employees, while increasing the productivity of the latter.

A scientific study, which appeared in the Journal of Marketing (Spangenberg, Crowley and Henderson, 1996), showed fairly conclusively that pleasant scents or aromas in the retail environment “improve a customer’s perception of the store, the environment and the products; and makes the customer want to revisit the store to buy something.”
Scenting the place of sale has the goal of creating an enjoyable, pro-shopping ambiance.

A pleasant scent improves the moods of customers and increases the desire to buy, which in turn increases sales.

Can you smell the profits?!!
